Caring For Your fish tank
Having a fish tank can be relaxing but you need to do some weekly maintenance on it in order to keep things running smoothly.
Watchingyour fish swim in your new tank can be very relaxing but if you don't keep up with the maintenace, it can quickly become stressful as improper care
can cause poor water quality which can kill your fish. Keeping your tank water clean is the best way to keep happy, healthy fish.
When cleanning your tank with a scrubber remember to use soft scrubbing pads so that you don't scratch up the sides of your tank.
You will need to scrub down your tank and decorations to get rid of algae periodically.
When adding water to your tank, pour it in gently so you don't disturb the gravel.
Water straight from the tap is not good for your fish, so make sure to invest in a water conditioner that you can
use each time you add water to the tank. Make sure you keep a cover on your tank to prevent dirt and other "stuff" from falling in.
Avoid setting up your aquarium near a heater or air conditioner to aid in keeping the water at a consistent temperature. Where you set up your 5 gallon fish tank can be important on cutting down on maintenance, particularly with algae.
Don't put your fish tank near a window or where could be in direct sunlight.
You should periodically do a partial water change on your aquarium and take out only 25% of the water adding in fresh conditioned water.
For the best maintanence of your tank, change the water about once a month. Parital water changes will do wonders for the water quality of your tank.
You should never use soap or cleaners in your tank, but if you do need to use cleaners or bleach on decorations or something from your aquarium, you must wash it thouroughly.
Don't let a little bit of maintenance scare you away from gettin an aquarium because
once you get into a routine, you will see that routine maintenance does not take much time and is worth the effort.
